A judge orders the military to stop being such douchebags.
It's high time that the nonsensical DADT ended. It was essentially mandatory lying for a group we expect to uphold the highest levels of honor. It was perverse, it was stupid and frankly it was insulting. I mean seriously, the majority of the country has accepted that gay people exist and do not represent the vast, moral armageddon that fundamentalists would have people believe. Arguments against the policy basically seemed to be that soldiers and sailors simply weren't mature enough to except the idea of gay people.
Well, fuck that.
The members of our armed forces are grown ups. They're grown ups in a country that believes in civil liberties so profoundly, that we will gladly die for them. Our soldiers and sailors and marines and airmen are men and women committed to the idea of the American promise of personal liberty. The argument that somehow they're not only completely out of the mainstream of American society but essentially a pack of grade school bullies, incapable of excepting that a fellow service member loves someone else is so very, very wrong. It simply does not bear out.
Thank you Judge Phillips. Thank you for treating our service members like adults.
