Overreact, Much?

This is getting quite a bit of play over the interwebs (I've seen it commented on twice! Twice I say!) so I think I'll weigh in on it quickly.

A teacher has plead guilty to possession of Simpsons porn.

Where oh where to begin?

Child pornography is of course deadly serious. And while Simpsons porn is unarguably a very, very weird way to get your rocks off (Christine O'Donnell is outraged! Outraged!), let's face a single, incredibly important fact here:

Bart and Lisa are not children. Nope. They're cartoons. In fact, unless you live in an area with incredibly high rates of jaundice and hydroencephalitis, I'd argue that they might not even be cartoons of humans.

Neil Gaiman says it best concerning a similar case in Australia back in 2008:

I suspect the Judge might have just inadvertantly granted human rights to cartoon characters.

I'm a little surprised at this to be honest. Last time I checked, the Supreme Court had ruled that this sort of law was overbroad.
