The Morning Blog, Thanksgiving Edition

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!

I hope everyone is looking forward to a nice, traditional feast of eels.

South Korea's Defense chief has resigned over his response to the recent North Korean artillery barrage. South Korea is now moving towards more muscular rules of engagement. Which is all well and good and certainly in their best interests considering that they live next to a clan of psychotic despots with a big, ol' army. That said though, I'm not really sure what if anything can be done to effectively deter said psychotics. They're not dealing with fully rational human beings here.

Here's some news from the gas boom in my part of Pennsylvania. There are actually significant property rights issues at play here, beyond environmental ones: I can't remember the details (I'll research, I promise), but I recall reading somewhere that if enough landowners in an area come to lease terms with a gas company, then any hold-outs are obligated to accept them. Don't take my word for it...It's been awhile since I read about this and need to make sure I'm remembering the details correctly. I'll try to look into it further, later.

Hah...I would note that having read the article, the man fighting the drilling on his property is outraged, OUTRAGED over the potential for environmental harm. Until he's offered a better contract.

In order to get ready for the 2016 Olympics, Brazil has called out it's marines to invade Rio's slums. So far, a safe environment for the shot put has demanded the deaths of 23 people.

I think they should be replaced with various tones of high pitched screeching.

Former House majority leader Tom Delay (AKA: The Hammer), has been convicted of money laundering and could face life in prison. Or he could face...probation. Does it strike anyone else that there's quite a bit of variance in terms of how he could be punished? We're saying his crimes warrant that he either be locked away from the rest of society forever, or given a good, stern talking to.

I think it took us 100 million years to discover these crocodiles because evidently, they were really speedy.

Really depressing: The science behind the coming doom of the polar bear. They're too specialized to survive.

For the holiday: A British take on some of the eccentricities of Thanksgiving side dishes. Sure, they can pooh pooh sweet potatoes with marshmallows but seriously...mashed swede? The Swedes deserve better than that. After all, they used to be vikings.

Wow... Three teenagers have been found after being adrift at sea for fifty days.

Here's some more on Sarah Palin's North Korea gaffe. For the record, I find it extremely embarrassing that this is the most viewed article over at the Guardian UK. I can't help but think that the world is laughing at us.

Nerd gifts. You have no idea how badly I want that glorious piece of nerf based artillery.

German efficiency.

And finally...It's an oldie but a goodie...And Kacee bait:
