The Morning Blog

New York cabbies have updated regulations on their attire. Gone are the days of freedom and cabbies in daisy dukes!

North Korea continues to blast away. It's notable that North Korea firing artillery into their own territory is less newsworthy than firing it into their neighbor. Nothing surprising about them messing up their own country.

The Marines are evidently the only branch of the military where there's any large scale objection to the repeal of DADT. . However, if forced to allow gay soldiers, they vow to be the gayest branch out there:

But in the end, Lt. Col. Hackett says every good Marine follows orders, and "if that's what the president orders, I can tell you by God we're going to excel above and beyond the other services to make it happen and be damn good at it."

Meanwhile, the navy just can't get its fill of seamen...

Kacee Bait: Surprisingly, without a pyramid.

Good news for Ireland! If they have any hope of regaining their economic standing, they're going to have to be able to lure business. Hopefully, the rest of the EU won't pressure them otherwise.

Theresa Bait: War Eagle!

Oh, she's gonna be mad...Gay Talese, Alabama Class of '53 on Auburn:

“Every society needs some lowlifes to look down on, and Auburn has always provided that,” he said.

A man who was never accused of a crime had had all contact with his children terminated by CYS for 11 months despite never being granted a hearing before or after the separation. A judge has ruled in his favor two weeks after he was killed in a car accident.

Will.i.am, Fergie and those other two guys that jump around a lot...You know, the ones with the wacky fashion sense... will be playing the Super Bowl. Didn't they just play the kick off game for last season? And didn't that season turn out to be utterly cursed for the Steelers? A pox on their house.

The Taliban describes the zippy fun Afghans can look forward to once the Americans leave. They might even permit kite flying!

Historically speaking: The Most Boring Day Ever.

Everyone loves a parade! By the way, I was thrilled to see that Takashi Murakami did some floats. I really, really like him. And he is really, really strange. View some of his art here.

My sister lives in England. They're looking down the barrel of some meteorological nastiness. Bundle up, Sis.

Oh terrific: On Saturday, we'll have been in Afghanistan longer than the Red Army.

Um, Kacee? Are you reading this? Are you?

And it runs on peanuts!

That's it for the Morning Blog. Have a good day!
