Wonk Fun

In lieu of the Morning Blog (I've got to get supplies for tonights Steelers game), I'd like to offer this fun, interactive budget puzzle over at the New York Times. You decide what programs you'd like to see cut and/or what taxes you'd like to see raised in the federal budget.

You might be interested to know that I managed to solve the deficit without raising taxes significantly. Basically, all you have to do is proceed from the position that war is bad, 2 million federal employees are probably more than we need and that people are living longer and can probably retire a bit further down the line.

You might also be interested to know that the fastest way to get your girlfriend to throw up her hands in exasperation and say "I'm going back to bed!" is to start tinkering with the federal budget. Especially if it makes your eyes gleam. The girlfriend does not seem to appreciate that one bit.

UPDATE: Got a little bit of time to kill. I'm going to try to crack out a Morning Blog after all.
