Today marks the 24th anniversary of the death of Carl Sagan.
There are probably a few things that I could say about Carl Sagan.
I could talk about the horrifying insights I gleamed from reading his book on the results of even "contained" nuclear war: "A Path Where No Man Thought".
(Terrifying Fact: Were an atomic weapon to explode about a mile or so from you, since heat travels at the speed of light rather than sound, there'd be a horrifying millisecond when everything around you burst inexplicably into flames. Then the boom would finally catch up and you'd realize "Oh, that's why this sucks.")
Or I could talk about his book in defense of rationality "The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark"
(Excellent Insight: Just because a million people claim to have an invisible, undetectable dragon in their garage named Trish, doesn't make it true.)
Or I could just be lazy and copy and paste this sentence from the piece:
Calling Carl Sagan a scientist is a little like calling the Beatles a rock band.
