Listening to the Monks got me on a bit of a roll.
And so, we dive once more into the mid-sixties to see what the old people were listening to when they watched your mom jiggle her stuff on a stripper pole.
And so I present to you, garage rock wonders, "The Sonics".
I'd wager that most folks have heard the Sonics before. They aren't nearly as obscure as the Monks. For one thing, they were actually popular outside of a single living room somewhere in Germany. However, they deserve mention because of their sheer bad-assery. Let's start with this number:
The Sonics - "Strychnine"
It's a rocking tune to say the least. Interestingly though, I think it's representative of a more innocent and definitely less litigious time in our history. If a popular song came out now, advocating the drinking of strychnine, can you imagine the response from our congress? Undoubtedly, we'd be dealing with the "Don't Actually Drink Strychnine Act of 2010".
And that'd just be ridiculous. Because really, it's delicious stuff and makes little kids grow up to be NFL stars.
Moving along, we're gonna take a gander at just one more Sonics song.
The Sonics - "Witch"
Why was it necessary to throw that one up as well? Hadn't I already established the aged awesomeness of the Sonics? I think I had. However, I also think that I like it when bikini moon girls dance around in front of abstract art.
So there.
