Gayin' Up the Kids

I'm really not a big fan of the show "Glee" having watched it exactly almost once. It just does nothing for me.

To be honest, I've always thought of high school as being "that terrible four years of your life that prepares you for every other terrible thing that will ever happen to you". So I'm really not that interested in revisiting it.

That said, as disinterested as I am in the show, I'm far less impressed by the idiocy on the right. Mary Elizabeth Williams takes a look:

During the segment, which aired after last week's Lady Gaga-themed "Born This Way" episode, host Damali Keith kicked off by comparing the show's gay themes to "product placement" -- you know, the kind that leaves "everyone in the theater thirsty for that particular brand." Yes, that's how it happens, America. One day your teenage son is banging the head cheerleader. The next, he hears a few bars of Chris Colfer's seductive warbling, and wham! Suddenly he's "thirsty" for that particular "brand." Of penis. Homosexuality – it's exactly like walking past a Cinnabon.

So profoundly dumb. So profoundly, profoundly, profoundly dumb. Sadly though, it's not limited to the Right. The Left is just as quick to assume that the average American can't possibly make up their own mind in the face of a relentless media barrage. Simply substitute "menthol cigarettes" for "homosexuality" and you've got a pretty strong match.
