This is certainly interesting: A French electrician has revealed that he possesses a trove of previously unseen Picasso works. It appears as though they are in fact genuine. He took them to Picasso's son to be authenticated which immediately sparked a multimillion-euro battle over their ownership with the son claiming his father would never give away so many paintings.
I would note that Picasso paid for one of his houses with a painting...Is it that strange to think that he might pay for the installment of burglar alarms with others?
Seems like a good match to me: Walmart buys Massmart.
Sigh...Yawn...Again with the pirates. I wish some vikings would show up...Just for a change of pace.
Do I really have to say another thing about Four Loko? Why, why must it keep popping up in the news again and again and again? Please make it stop. Sigh. Well anyways, the FDA is apparently expanding its net to end the terror of caffeinated beer. Even if it doesn't taste good and nobody's ever heard of it, they'll do their best to make sure you never do.
The streaming video game service OnLive is attempting to position itself as a competitor to the Xbox, Playstation 3 or Wii. I get the sense that gaming is really only the beginning for them. If they're able to guarantee high quality streaming, I don't see why they wouldn't explore other applications. That said, they've chosen to launch in an extremely competitive market with some very, very big players. For more on the service, read here. Sounds like a good product. I'm still not ready to retire my Xbox but it's something to consider.
For the out-of-towners (and anyone that cares): The Steelers get graded.
Cord Jefferson gives some important context to the protests over the TSA pat-downs. Once again, this is sad evidence that conservative outrage over the pat-downs is evidence of tribalism, NOT libertarianism. Pundits like Charles Krauthammer have no problem with the policy (or torture for that matter), provided it's being restricted to the diabolical and swarthy other:
According to the New York Civil Liberties Union, the NYPD's stop-and-frisk tactic, in which officers stop citizens on the street and search their bodies and bags, was used on 149,753 New Yorkers in the first three months of 2010. Of those frisked, 85 percent were black or Latino. Even more shocking is that 87 percent of those stopped were completely innocent.
Where is the conservative rage about that? I disagree that flying is a choice in many cases. Often, there simply is no other option. But remaining inside of your house at all times, CLEARLY is not something we expect people to choose to do in order to avoid rampant 4th Amendment violations.
Koala bears are natures divas. Or natures Van Halen. Whatever you want to call them.
You can certainly draw your own conclusions from this: An evangelical pastor is being held with five other people for burning a 72 year old woman to death for 'being a witch'.
Comfort Akosua Edu, of the country's Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice puts it substantially milder than I would:
"It is very disheartening that some men of God, whose responsibility it is to help save lives, could orchestrate the killing of innocent souls, all in the name of God."
Just in time for the Christmas season. Lovely.
On a slightly lighter note, racism is rampant in Hobbit land.
Happy 38th Birthday Pong! I'm still waiting for an amped up, 3D, EXTREME!!!! sequel with a name like Pong: Redemption or maybe Pong: Revolutions or...why the hell not? Pong: Reach
Visit scenic Libya!
In the immortal words of sage and almanacker John Hodgman:
That is all.
