Mike Bait

Well, who didn't see this coming sooner or later?

Let's all enjoy some video of two women beating the hell out of SpongeBob SquarePants in Hollywood.

For the rest of you, I think it's important to register my disgust...MY DISGUST!! that the Green Lantern looks on and does nothing. Whatever happened to good ol', space-bling fueled heroics?

Movie for a Thursday

Let's all watch a movie about a farmer who loves his sheep.

Not in that way. Get your mind out of the gutter.

Well, for the Record...

Lots and lots of reasons to leave my neighborhood.

For example, the residents.

Working at the local beer distributor, I've had more than my share of conversations with this singing sensation. My personal favorite happened right after he'd bought a case of beer, walked outside and been hit by a car. He wandered back into the beer distributor and was immediately outraged. Not because he'd been hurt in a hit and run. Not because we offered to call an ambulance or the police or whatever service he needed. But because we wouldn't replace the case of beer he lost when he got hit.

By the way, every conversation always ends with "Alright."

Cops on Camera

Coming via Radley Balko's excellent The Agitator (your one stop shop for questionable police behavior), are a couple of excellent videos showing very divergent reactions by police to being filmed.

It's a bit of good cop/bad cop. We'll start with the bad cop first, just to give a good example of how law enforcement officers SHOULD NOT REACT to being filmed performing their public duties within a public area.

Nothing quite like ending a march against violence by putting a TV news cameraman in a choke hold is there, ladies and gentleman?

Following this, it's very important to stress that there are obviously many, many police officers out there who are the very image of professionalism.

The differences between the following video and the proceeding one are vast. In this case, the officer is in fact encountering an objectively dangerous weapon:

For the record, a Smith and Wesson .40 is substantially more dangerous than a video camera. However, this officer didn't even feel the need to raise his voice, let alone assault anyone. He identified a possible problem and treated it in a way one would hope (let's hope for unicorns while we're at it!), all officers would. Regardless of your feelings about open carry laws (for the record: I'm permitted to carry concealed and choose to do so precisely to avoid these sorts of conversations), the level of professionalism shown by this officer is undeniably admirable.

What We Lost

I posted a link to this video earlier but honestly, only had a chance to look at it now.

Fabulous, astonishing, life-affirming images of the night sky.

If you're like me, you can't help but consider the awesome majesty that we've simply lost because of light pollution. Granted, we've gained some pretty wonderful stuff in its stead but still...Being able to look out nightly at the whirling glory that is creation as it speeds around our tiny ball of mud is beyond humbling.

The Future

Leonard Cohen on the future:

Harlan Elison on the future:

They want to hire, they meaning whoever is hiring, wish to hire 19-year-olds who think vampires are a brand new idea. They wish to make everybody your age think they are the age of those young women who pose contrapposto in the ads. They are the ones that have closed down every business, everything but McDonalds and BP and Verizon. They draw us all daily into a tighter knot. Everything has become so complex and there’s so little money that they now manage to bring us to the end times in America. I do not see any hope or joy or vigor. I love my country but there’s nothing I can do but hang on, and by hang on it’s get through tomorrow, and so I do.

Me on the future:

Well, at least they're hiring!

Mike Bait

Came across this while I was searching for something for the Sunday Matinee.

It's a parody sure, Bro. But let's face it: There's a pretty good reason why we haven't bothered to check in on any hip-hop since the early 90's. Sadly, this is the current state of the music:

Hell in a Handbasket!

Yep, the country's going down the drain!

First women get uppity and start dating, then the gays start wanting to get married and now...

THIS!!!!

Jesus wept!

Thanks to the always awesome the Girlfriend.

Music for a Sunday

The Girlfriend informs me that this is my theme song. I read the lyrics and...well, yeah. Except for the ham and egg salad sandwiches. Especially not on white bread.

Also, I'm strictly a non-mentholated cigarette sort of guy.

Music for a Government Shut Down

Well, they might not be as cool as the bikers from "The Road Warrior" and their post-government apocalypse might be a bit...unusual...But I'll take what I can get.

Movie for a Thursday

Well, I do need a haircut.

For real, I do most definitely need a haircut. It's just getting out of hand. Unfortunately, I am very nervous about barbers. It's so rare for me to be happy with what they do. Often, I'm happier just doing it myself and hoping that after attacking my head with clippers, I don't end up looking like a cancer patient.

Anyways:

Programming Note

Just a note in the event anyone's interested:

If you look to your right, you should see that I've added a new gadget.

"A gadget?" You say, "How thrilling! Does it whir? Does it click? Does it open cans? Will it salvage my love life?"

I have no idea!

What I do know is that if anyone is so inclined, it will allow you to get updates to the blog via email. So, it anyone out there feels like subscribing that way, have at it.

Given that none of this is terribly interesting....Here's another gadget for ya:
